The last one!

"Social relations & critical spaces" has really broadened my mind about art what can be defined as art and different ways of experiencing art that i would probably not have taken an interest in before. In my mind i used to really only value art that was aesthetically pleasing, a physical beautiful object or single outcome, something which i could relate to and expressed some sort of emotion. After attending this class, and reading readings upon readings i've come to the realisation that there is just so much more not only in the artworld but in our real world and somehow it all interconnects and relates. For example when we discovered the Situationalists in this class, it wasn't even about making art but it had an impact and was part of the artworld. I never really thought much of collaborative, collective, community, conversational.. works but after reading "Conversation Pieces" by Grant Kester i took such an interest to the action of these works and the strong intentions behind them. For me they seemed quite amazing, wanting to draw awareness and attention to things going on in our world - i find this really admirable. And even collective works that want to make their audiences just think about a certain thing that we take for granted every day, possibly our city or our different senses -hearing, seeing. What really is incredibly is the thought behind such works by Haha (a collective) which have conciously planned each and every step for their viewer, physically leading them around and through their work (for example a house) and really creating an aesthetic expereince for them.
Each aesthetic experience for such works is different for each viewer, therefore not a single, predictable outcome is gained - and this makes the work so much more interesting.
All in all i did enjoy our class and it really did challenge me to think, read readings which i didn't initally understand/or know anything about the topic and just learn.
