In conjunction with the continuous theme of war (and more specifically 9/11) in the Papastergiadis reader, I decided to mention a little personal discovery that can be directly related to Ranciere’s claim that, “he or she always has the capacity to not just observe and follow the line of a story, but also the ability to see another storyline, which may in fact depart from the intended message and create a new narrative.”
Every now and then I like to youtube scary things late at night and see how much I can freak myself out (strange, I know). Anyway, by typing in “ghost photos” recently, these two images of the Twin Towers appeared. Some people believe them to be Satan attempting to terrorise and petrify humanity!!! Other people believe them to be demons working their evil on the New Yorkers. Others believe them to be the trapped spirits of the victims inside. Cynical others (like myself) believe it to be either mere coincidence or (more likely) the magical wonders of photoshop.
Regardless of the vast amounts of interpretations of the images, one thing is for sure, it is not so much the attacks on the Twin Towers in New York that the viewer is contemplating- it is the possibility that GHOSTS, DEMONS, AND SATAN REALLY EXIST!!! Hence, a new narrative presents itself.
