I have found that this course has really expanded my ideas about art. I think I found these ideas so new and challenging at first is because other classes have never really dealt with some of these ideas, also the fact that we looked at issues and ideas that did not relate directly to art for example, the Situationalist International. I saw them as being removed from art due to the fact they were so much apart of everyday life they were almost indistinguishable as art. This course dealt with this shift in art to become more accessible and relevant to everyday life. I think the fact this course brought up differing ideas and opinions is really exciting and many other thap courses do not have the same effect.
I found looking at the Liabach and the ideas discussed in Interrogation Machines about this group really interesting. Also Grant Kester’s ‘Conversation Pieces” I became really enthralled into the ideas of collaborative and community based artworks, this for me lead to further research into this area. This course challenged my thinking on works outside the gallery working within the community and works interacting with it audience which can have a powerful effect. This course looked at artists that I had never looked at such as, Wochen Klauser and Liabach.
I just wanted to also say how effective I personally thought the blog was each week. I researched the topics and readings before class this made the class more useful and effective. Even reading the blog I found really beneficial as if I didn’t understand some of the ideas or wanted to see what other people thought I could just take a look at the blog.
