When I walked out of In The Balance I felt completely overwhelmed and disinterested.
The exhibition comprises of over one hundred works by thirty artists and artists collectives, all presenting huge amounts of information about a huge range of sociological and ecological issues that are being faced.
While these issues are important and discussion about them needs to be raised, walking into that exhibition was like being hit by a very environmentally conscious and knowledgeable truck.
There was so much to take in that it was easier to take nothing in. And there were so many things we were being told to care about, it was easier not to care about any of them.
Committed works like this are very much about conveying information, about getting a very specific point across. Having all of these works en mass, I think, made it impossible for any of them to be successful in their aim.
i agree - this was badly curated, and left me underwhelmed. That said there are a lot of solid and very good works in there, just need to focus on a couple.
