Key to the city

"Key to the City" is a public art project that happened in New York City Time square, on broadway. People receives a key to enter the city and as well, they also bestow a key through a special ceremony. When people participate, they receive a guidbook with information about the key and how the key bestow ceremony works. People also have to read the script that is given to them loudly during their ceremony.

I think this public art project helps people to engage with the city, not just about the 'city', but it sort of brought a change to the city into more symbolised the space by giving the key. The key is to open the door in order to get into the space and I think it is a huge thing which allow people to open the city to enter and gives the fact that they are honored to locked and unlocked the city. Ceremony is also represent traditional way of celebrating certain things. By doing ceremonial performance, the city becomes more significance of the space and recreated the idea of 'the city' into a new world.
