If I look at the history of collectivism/collaboration, it is to do with social and political issue that has developed by those who continuously involves some or a lot of collective work since the last 20th century, which affects to a change in pattern of artistic labour, as well as general economy and of contemporary art. The collective art began by protesting against the politic and one of the example is Guerrilla Girls, the woman artists who fought against discrimination in politics and art.
It is the history and a change that began to produce the idea of collectivism, which started by group activities in multiple media for cultural and political revolution. This impact gave the artists to work with collectives and artist production. The collective is to do with social and political issue, often performative. The performance is the idea to get closer to the public, to share ad influence them. This social and political issue is what everyone concerns, and this idea intergrate people in public with art, easy to understand and encounter with collective art.
Collaboration with the artists and public create a bond between them, let both of them easy to confront each other, however, this will concern with the idea of broadness in art. Art is meant to be presented to public, and it has been. The art is already opened to them and same as collective art. It is to discusse and present social and political issue; racism, AIDS, homeless etc. This can be seen as a principle of collectivism that forms art and activism as well.
